First meeting: Wed, 8. Oct, 16:30, SR 101 B

lecture notes: pdf

grading: participation + team project, ECTS: 4.5

TISS

In this lecture we discuss proper finite element methods for applications including solid- and fluid-mechanics as well as electromagnetics. We will perform simulations with the finite element package Netgen/NGSolve developed at the Institute for Analysis and Scientific Computing. We also discuss the implementation of fem including high order elements, Raviart-Thomas and Nedelec elements, preconditioning, parallelization, ...

Please bring your notebook-computer (Windows or Linux) to class.

Windows: Netgen/NGSolve 5.3 Installer from http://sourceforge.net/projects/netgen-mesher/files/netgen-mesher/5.3/ If you don't have Visual Studio 2013 installed you have to additionally install the Microsoft c++ Runtimes, available from here:

Win32 x64 Linux: Compile from source: http://netgen-mesher.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
