TU Best Teaching Award for Markus FAUSTMANN

The ceremony of the Best Teaching Awards of TU Wien took place on October 13, 2022. As in the past years, members of the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing were amongst the nominees.

This year, the Best Teacher Award at the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation goes to Dr. Markus FAUSTMANN (ASC, Senior Lecturer of Numerical Analysis). With this award, the success of our institute continues: Since the first Best Teaching Awards in 2017, all Best Teacher Awards at the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation went to members of the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing: Prof. Ewa WEINMÜLLER, 2017; Prof. Peter SZMOLYAN, 2018; Prof. Winfried AUZINGER, 2019; Dr. Andreas KÖRNER, 2020; Prof. Dirk PRAETORIUS, 2021; Dr. Markus FAUSTMANN, 2022.

This year, the top-3 finalists for the Best Teacher Award at the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation were all from the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing: Besides Dr. Markus Faustmann, also Dr. Andreas KÖRNER and Prof. Ewa WEINMÜLLER were nomintated. Since Dr. Markus Faustmann was also amongst the top-3 finalists of the years 2020 and 2021, we can say with strongest confidence that the Best Teacher Award 2022 is definitely well deserved.

As in 2020, TU Wien also recognized excellence in teaching by awarding the Best Lecture Award and the Best Digital Teaching Award. Amongst the TU-wide 10 nominated lectures for the Best Lecture Award were the lectures Practical Mathematics for Technical Physicists taught by Dr. Andreas KÖRNER as well as Numerics of PDEs taught by Dr. Markus FAUSTMANN. In addition, the lecture Practical Mathematics for Technical Physicists taught by Dr. Andreas KÖRNER was also amongst the TU-wide 9 nominated lectures for the Best Digital Teaching Award.

Well deserved, the 2022 Awards for the Best Lecture and the Best Digital Teaching went to colleagues from other faculties of TU Wien. However, already the nomination is a great success for the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing. Moreover, we note that Dr. Andreas KÖRNER was amongst the finalists of all three categories of 2022: Best Teacher, Best Lecture, and Best Digital Teaching. We keep our fingers crossed and are quite confident that Andreas will again succeed to win this prestigious TU-interal competition in 2023.

In any case, we thank our students for their sign of esteem of our dedication to excellent academic teaching!
