September 19, 2022 New FWF ESPRIT project for Ass.Prof. Dr. Stefano ALMIAss.Prof. Dr. Stefano ALMO was granted an FWF ESPRIT Project for his proposal on Brittle fracture on plates and shells (FWF grant ESP-61) mentored by Prof. Joachim Schöberl. The aim of the project is the rigorous justification of models of brittle fracture on membranes, plates, and shells, as well as the development of new numerical methods for fracture simulation on thin structures. This will lead to the study of dimension reduction problems in the context of variational fracture mechanics and free discontinuity functionals. In particular, the project will focus on crack processes in linear and nonlinear elasticity, in membrane and in bending regimes, their phase-field approximations, and their numerical implementation with the finite element method. Stefano Almi obtained his Ph.D. in 2016 at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste under the supervision of Prof. Gianni Dal Maso and Prof. Rodica Toader. He held a postdoctoral position at the Technical University of Munich with Prof. Massimo Fornasier and was University Assistant at the University of Vienna in the group of Prof. Ulisse Stefanelli. Since 2021, he is also Assistant Professor at the University of Naples Federico II. The Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing congratulates Stefano on securing this grant. We are pleased to welcome you at TU Wien! |
