October 08, 2021 TU Best Teaching Award for Dirk PraetoriusThe ceremony of the Best Teaching Awards of TU Wien took place on October 07, 2021. As in the past years, members of the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing were amongst the nominees. This year, the Best Teacher Award at the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation goes to Prof. Dirk PRAETORIUS (ASC, Head of Institute and Member of Research Unit of Numerical Analysis). With this award, a remarkable success continues: Since the first Best Teaching Awards in 2017, all Best Teacher Awards at the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation went to members of the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing: Prof. Ewa WEINMÜLLER, 2017; Prof. Peter SZMOLYAN, 2018; Prof. Winfried AUZINGER, 2019; Dr. Andreas KÖRNER, 2020; Prof. Dirk PRAETORIUS, 2021. Amongst the top-3 finalists of the faculty was also Dr. Markus FAUSTMANN (ASC, Research Unit of Numerical Analysis), who has already been amongst the top-3 finalists in 2020. He was recently appointed as senior lecturer at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing, and we keep our fingers crossed that Markus will finally be awarded with a best teaching award in the coming year 2022. As in 2020, TU Wien also recognized excellence in teaching during the pandemic year 2020/21 by awarding the Best Distance Teaching Awards. Amongst the TU-wide 14 nominated lectures were also three lectures held by members of the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing:
This year, well deserved, the six Best Distance Teaching Awards went to colleagues from other faculties of TU Wien. However, already the nomination is a great success for the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing. We thank our students for this sign of esteem of our dedication to good online teaching. However, we are convinced that we can even do better as soon as we may return to normal teaching in presence. |
